Cardiometabolic Benefits of Flaxseed-Enriched Chapati in Adults with Dyslipidemia

Abstract

Background: The incorporation of flaxseed into a traditional staple can enhance adherence and relevance in populations over long-term.
Objective: To compare two daily chapatis fortified with 20 g milled flaxseed to isocaloric standard wheat chapatis with the help of a randomized controlled trial.
Methods: The protocol draft consisted of 90 experimental units or subjects of adults with untreated mild-to-moderate dyslipidemia. The intervention was given or subjected to 12 weeks. The main result was serum triglycerides, and secondary evaluation of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein. Standard laboratory, clinical, or food-analysis methods were used and between-condition effects were tested at two-sided tests at α=0.05.
Results: Flaxseed-enriched chapati reduced triglycerides by 45 ± 24 mg/dL compared with 7 ± 21 mg/dL after standard chapati (p<0.001). LDL cholesterol fell by 18 mg/dL, hs-CRP by 0.8 mg/L, and systolic pressure by 5.6 mmHg in the intervention group, with 92% adherence. The direction and magnitude of the dummy findings were internally consistent across primary and secondary endpoints, and tolerability or assay-quality criteria remained acceptable.
Conclusion: The example dataset suggests that two daily chapatis enriched with 20 g milled flaxseed could produce a meaningful improvement in serum triglycerides through alpha-linolenic acid, lignans, and viscous fiber acting on lipid metabolism, bile-acid handling, and vascular inflammation. These findings are intended solely as a complete manuscript-development example and require replacement with ethically generated, independently verified observations before scientific submission.
