Abstract

Residential rooftop solar (RSR) systems have become an important component of sustainable energy transitions by reducing dependence on conventional electricity and supporting renewable energy adoption. Understanding consumer satisfaction is essential for improving service quality and promoting long-term acceptance of these systems. This study evaluates consumer satisfaction with RSR products among households in Kannur District, Kerala, India. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 200 respondents selected through stratified random sampling using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), Pearson's correlation, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, multiple linear regression (MLR), Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA), and thematic analysis. The results indicated high overall consumer satisfaction (Mean = 4.15), with cost-effectiveness and product performance identified as the strongest determinants. Regression analysis confirmed product performance (β = 0.32) and cost-effectiveness (β = 0.28) as significant predictors of satisfaction. The study concludes that improving customer service, maintenance support, and awareness of government incentives can further enhance consumer satisfaction and encourage sustainable residential solar energy adoption.
