Abstract

Herbal cosmetics have emerged as a significant segment of the cosmetic industry due to rising consumer preference for natural, safe, and eco-friendly products. These cosmetics are formulated using plant-based ingredients that provide cosmetic enhancement along with therapeutic benefits. Unlike synthetic cosmetics, herbal cosmetics are believed to cause fewer side effects and offer long-term benefits to skin and hair health. This review article discusses the historical background, concept, classification, commonly used medicinal plants, formulation approaches, mechanisms of action, advantages, limitations, safety and quality concerns, regulatory aspects, and future prospects of herbal cosmetics.
