Assessment of Pharmaceutical Professionals’ Awareness and Practices Regarding Drug Polymorphism and Its Impact on Tablet Formulation and Performance

Abstract

Although drug polymorphism has a substantial impact on pharmaceutical quality, stability, and bioavailability, professionals are not well-informed about or adept at managing it. In order to evaluate pharmaceutical professionals' understanding, attitudes, behaviors, and difficulties with medication polymorphism, the current study polled 450 of them using a structured questionnaire. The results showed that although 88.7% of respondents recognized the importance of polymorphism, many were ignorant of its scientific definition and methods of characterization. Inadequate training and a lack of analytical tools were major obstacles to efficient management. Practical training sessions were the main focus of improvement recommendations. The study found that although professionals appreciated drug polymorphism, there were significant knowledge and practice gaps, and that the best indicator of competency was professional experience. Improving training and instruction, as well as providing access to cutting-edge technologies, are crucial for improved field management.
